Casa il Muro

Your little corner of Abruzzo

Restaurants you can walk to

Abruzzo is famous for not-to-be-missed arrosticini (skewers of grilled meat). Where can you get some? And what else does Citta Sant'Angelo offer the adventurous diner?

While staying at Casa Il Muro, here's where you can eat without a car.

Pit Stop

Our favorite pizzeria is just a short walk down the Corso. Chef Luigi spins his pizzas by hand in the kitchen while locals grab an apertif or stop by to chat. In the warmer months you can eat outside along the Corso or in the small piazza adjoining the pizzeria. It's the perfect place to watch a soccer game on TV while munching fantastic pizza or burgers.

Hosteria Cavour

Follow the Corso to the east end of town to this magical grotto beside the Church of the Arcangel. It's the perfect place to take visitors or celebrate a special occasion. You can get arrosticini here, plus a variety of  specialties such as artichoke ravioli, pasta with mushroom-and-truffle sauce, the Abruzzo pasta mugnaia, and more.

Caffe del Corso

This family establishment has two locations along the Corso. As you walk east, you'll find a traditional coffeeshop in the center of town, which also offers light fare. Keep walking to the end of town for the second location, which on weekends in the warmer months spreads intimately lit tables under the trees. Order the good pizza and draft beer and relax in the delightful sea breezes wafting from below.

Belvedere

We just call this "the hotel." It has the best view in town and is a good option if Hosteria Cavour is full. You can get arrosticini here! And the rest of the menu is very good as well. Throughout the day, it's an excellent spot to get a quick coffee or late breakfast.

The Market Day PorchettaTrailer

On Wednesday and Saturday mornings, it's market day in Citta Sant'Angelo. In addition to fresh produce and cheeses, the Porchetta trailer awaits you at the far end of town. There you can buy fresh-roast sliced pork, a pork sandwich to go, or a half or whole rotisserie chicken.

Annunziata Pizza

If you don't mind a steep uphill return, there is a town that adjoins Citta Sant'Angelo called Annunziata. There is a very popular traditional pizzeria there with indoor/outdoor dining; you might need to message them for a reservation on Friday or Saturday night. Recommended!

Margazillo

This is a longer walk or bike ride, but do-able if you are in shape and without a car. To reach Margazillo, leave through Porta Licinia and head down the back hill past Annunziata along SP1. Walk about .5 mile to Strada Ponticello and turn left there. It's about another two long blocks to the restaurant. Completely worth the walk or drive! Fabulous food and 100% Italian atmosphere.
NOTE: this is NOT the swanky seafood place "Margazill" that you might have passed coming from Montesilvano.

Gelateria Mon Amour

This is a coffeeshop during the colder months, but in the warmer months it's the most popular ice cream spot in town! Wander down the Corso a couple of blocks and get a cone or cup of classic homemade ice cream -- a dollop of panna (whipped cream) on top is free for the asking. Settle into the adjacent Piazza Garibaldi or resume your passaggiata. Hint: Porta Licinia has the best sunsets.

Rose Cafe

Rose Cafe is in the middle of town and THE place for people-watching. They have light fare and gelato in the warmer months. You can sip coffee or aranciata in the morning and wine or limoncello in the evening, indoors or along the Corso.
